About

Vision
The Association of Integrative Oncology and Chinese Medicine (AIOCM) is committed to bringing the full potential of Traditional and Modern Chinese Medicine into the treatment of cancer. This can and will be done in a fully integrated fashion, being part of a complementary discipline, which brings real opportunities to patients. AIOCM practitioners will be recognized as partners in this treatment and will be part of a complete treatment protocol. AIOCM recognizes most cancer patients use some form of complementary medicine and this association will bring real, valuable and responsible treatment options within orthodox oncology.

By creating appropriate education competencies we begin a process which will grow into clinical training, internships, and research opportunities.  This will then lead to a board certification process and public policy changes that will help Chinese Medicine practitioners attain the proper skills and respect with patients and within the medical community both in cancer care and in other areas of medicine.

It is no accident that many of the leaders in integrative oncology, even in the use of Chinese Medicine, are physicians. Orthodox oncologists understand the potential of Chinese medicine but need partners like AIOCM to fully implement these potentials. That potential is dependant upon us practitioners to supply protocols and medicinals, which are true to our traditions while speaking in a language understood by physicians. We need to create a place for ourselves in the biomedical context, bringing the holistic and indvidualized approach of Chinese Medicine to Western medical science.

Within our community there are advanced practitioners that have specialized research and vast clinical experience. They bring excellence in training in both Chinese Medicine and Western science.  These practitioners can teach, provide internships and research and guide the direction of the organization forward. The beginning of integration begins with mutual respect and that occurs through communication, AIOCM is that resource.

Mission
To advance the knowledge, science and practice of Chinese Medicine (CM) in Integrative Oncology so that we as practitioners can be more effective in helping cancer patients, communicating our medicine and raising professional acceptance.
The complexities of cancer patients require specialized knowledge both in biomedicine and in Chinese medicine. The AIOCM will educate practitioners on the safe and effective use of integrative Chinese Medicine as it applies to cancer patients.
There are few places to get advanced level training in Chinese Medicine (CM) oncology support despite the fact that CM has great tools, theory and a history of clinical significance to help cancer patients.   Through education we will bridge the gap between the language of biomedical science and the language of Chinese Medicine.  We teach the responsible use of herbs and Chinese Medicine based upon traditional principles and modern research.

The AIOCM will access the research, ideas and experience through the sharing of advanced practitioners and other oncology professionals.
